irst opened in 1998, Medusa was the first boutique hotel of its kind to grace Sydney with its presence. In the heart of Sydney's ultra-fashionable Darlinhurst district stands a tall bright pink building with a deep blue fence that is hard to miss. The Medusa prides itself on being the best boutique hotel Sydney can offer, and we have to agree.
Take a step into this modern and colorful hotel and you'll see what I mean. It's contemporary and upscale. It's social and fun. It's comfortable yet hip and trendy.
The theme of the hotel is, of course, you guessed it, Medusa. A goddess who perhaps was best known for her snake like hair, but even more her undeniable beauty. A red, carpeted staircase winds up the hotel and classic music like Beethoven chimes through the walls. The 'Deluxe' rooms come complete with a fireplace, queen size bed, ottoman, fireplace, a sitting area and my favorite, a bathtub with what I deem to be one of the best body products, Aveda.
Need to relax? Don't worry there's a pool area/sitting area on the premise to lie out in the sun. Feel sluggish and want to go to the gym? You want it, you got it. Complimentary passes to the nearby Bayswater Fitness, Sydney's top gym, are available at reception for guests. Miss your pooch? Bring him along! The Medusa suites can accommodate up to two medium size dogs. Want to socialize? There's plenty of social indoor and outdoor areas where you can hang out, have a drink and meet other hip urbanites. Have the urge to shop? Best of all is that you are in walking distance of some of the best shopping districts, like Oxford St., Pitt St. mall, The Galleria, and some of the most amazing cathedrals and parks, including Hyde Park. Step foot out of the hotel and go either left or right, neither way will steer you wrong.
Travelling on business? Get your boss to book you in to the Medusa on the premise that the Medusa accommodates the modern day businesswoman, with a business room that can be rented out complete with telephone and internet connection.
One could easily spend a week in this boutique hotel, which accompanied with a friendly staff, feels like a home away from home. The city's little secret hotel is constantly booked with prices ranging from AU $330 to $485 a night, its best to call and book in advance. I promise I won't steer you wrong. Easily one of the best hotels in Sydney. Stay for a while and you will thank us for opening your eyes up to one of Sydney's best kept secret.
