n Necker Island, you will find a one-of-a-kind spa. The Bali Leha Spa (Leha Leha in Balinese is an expression meaning peace, relaxation and daydreaming) recently opened its doors in this very idyllic setting. Once again, Richard Branson (a.k.a. the "Virgin" brand mogul) has succeeded in creating a unique experience for guests to revel in while visiting his pristine private 74-acre Virgin island.
Necker's architect, Jon Osman, joined forces in developing the spa for Branson. Drawing from the resort's original "Bali meets Caribbean" architecture, he utilized his expertise and vision to create the one-room space. In addition, tucked into the hillside above the main spa sits a second open-air massage area.
Dedicated to the nourishment of the mind, body and soul, Bali Leha derives its magic from the nature it is surrounded by. Built atop a cliff, overlooking the ocean, guests can unwind on the exterior wraparound decks, lounge on Balinese chaises and take in breathtaking views of the surrounding islands.
I wound down several stone steps from the main house to the spa, passing an outdoor massage area (complete with white flowing linen drapes), that rests above the spa on the hillside. You can request this outdoor massage area ahead of time. Since I was having a massage and scrub, I chose the indoor/outdoor main spa, which also offers an open aired shower for "post" massage and scrub treatments.
As I entered this one room spa, it was clear to me that this was going to be a one-of-a-kind spa experience. Something uniquely different than I had experienced at other spas before. Where else will you find a spa built on a hillside cliff, complete panoramic views of the ocean and surrounding islands, warm gentle breezes that flow through the opened doors---a total mind, body and soul experience--Necker style?
I had all ready hit "relax-mode" by just being in this spectacular environment. I found my place on the massage table--strategically placed in the middle of the room so guests can enjoy the views, took in a breath of fresh Caribbean air, and laid back onto the table for my "treat-ments".
The spa's extensive menu includes face and scalp massages, exfoliation treatments, hot and cold stone therapy massages, manicures, waxing, body bronzing and customized facials using an exclusive range of products by Sothy's. The Aloe and Mint Wrap is the spa's signature treatment combining fresh ingredients of aloe and mint grown on the island. Several specialty treatments such as the Marine Salt Scrub and Massage, and the Algae Detox Body wrap, incorporate both exfoliation and massage, and are followed up with nourishing skin treatments using blends of Sothy's essential oils.
This unique slice of heaven in a spa is sure to make you daydream, revitalize your soul, and bring you well deserved peace and relaxation.
