We may not blame you if you told us you'd never thought about putting your vacuum on display. We would, however, blame you if you owned a Dyson vacuum and you'd never considered it. The question is not whether this is the best designed vaccum ever made, but whether it is the best designed appliance bar none. And it just may be!
In fact, I think we're in love. With a vacuum, you say? But wait until you hear about these vacuums! Not only are they the most modern and funky design you'll find on just about any appliance, but they suck up dirt and dust like there's no tomorrow! Really, we have been using the DC11 canister and DC14 models for over a month now and both have tackled (with style) any situation we put them up against. Animal hair? No problem! Cat litter? Pfft! Dust? What dust!
"I was so frustrated with my vacuum cleaner – the bag quickly clogged with dust, destroying the suction," explains James Dyson, the founder and inventor behind the Dyson brand, "So I developed an entirely new type of vacuum cleaner to solve this problem: the first vacuum cleaner, which unlike others, doesn't lose suction."
In fact, Dyson models have twice as much suction than a regular vacuum to begin with and, unlike normal vacuums, these Dyson models don't lose suction when the canister gets on the full side. How, you may ask? Well, it's called Root8Cyclone™ and it uses high centrifugal force. It explained it all in the brochure, but suffice to say that it took 5,127 prototypes and a lot of thought and technology went into it. Not to mention that they got rid of those annoying vacuum bags and filters all together.
For their eye-grabbing designs, Dyson has received numerous awards. For technological innovation, they won such awards as the Industrial Design Prize of America, Chicago Athenaeum Good Design Prize, the European Design Prize, the Super Good of the Year (Japan), and the L'Etoile de l'Observeur du Design (France). They were even cited as one of Time magazine's "Coolest Inventions". Now, how cool is that!
Want to know which one is right for you? Well, we found that, in small areas such as condos, the DC11 Caniser ($529 - 599 US) served us better as it was much lighter and easier to carry around. It was also easier for getting dust out of corners and dusting in general. For larger homes and those of us with furry friends, the DC14 comes in a handy "Animal" version ($569) which has a bit more suction and comes with handy attachments, like an air-powered turbo tool with a brush bar that magically whisk away all pet hair. And, of course, both models retain microscopic particles, come with built-in HEPA filtration systems, and have the BAF (British Allergy Foundation) seal of approval. Would you expect anything less?
