So, I step out of Ralph Lauren on Rodeo and isn't it just pouring out! Luckily, I thought to myself, I came prepared! I proudly opened my trusty little - hot pink - pocket umbrella, which I'm sure would have worked great if it didn't instantly flip inside out. Just my luck. What I'm trying to say is that if I had just brought a sturdier umbrella my new Purple Label outfits wouldn't have gotten soaked before I even got a chance to wear them. On the "bright" side, Bright Night illuminated (yes, illuminated) umbrellas have come to the rescue (because I know this has happened to everyone) with a great new line of trendy and extremely durable umbrellas.
Bright Night creators Ian Bouchard and Sean Murphy came up with the idea while on a trip in Vancouver, British Columbia. Sean Murphy originally invented the lighted umbrella, which he planned to market as a safety tool. At first the new idea didn't go over to well. Then came Ian Bouchard who added a little touch of fashion to the designs and through hard work and with the help of Karacters Design, who developed the canopy, Bright Nights was created.
So let's talk about the product. What exactly are "Water Beads"? This is the name of one of the new designer umbrellas. The print on the canopy looks like small beads of water scattered all over the pavement. The inspiration for the designs all stem from water, with names like "Monsoon" to "Cloud Burst" and even "Water Clusters".
The creators describe the Water Clusters design as "an act of gravity and attraction, small beads turn into larger droplets until it seems the gathering clusters will take over the world." Couldn't have put it better myself! The best part is that these products are just as amazing as the creators describe.
For $45 US, you get a stylish and fun umbrella that can withstand wind blowing at 40mph, for 20 minutes! Now that's a quality umbrella! We tested out six of their ultra chic umbrellas and noticed that we got quite a few admiring looks while walking amidst a sea of black dome umbrellas. We deliberated for hours, but we couldn't agree on just one or two favorites out of the six designs, we liked them all so much!
Guess what? You still haven't heard the best of it! Let's get to the part that makes this product truly unique. Each umbrellas comes with a light installed at the base of the canopy that retracts when the umbrella is closed, and is covered in a waterproof housing for safety. The reflector model has a silver underside that reflects 90% of the light generated.
I would imagine that everyone who dares to stand out in a crowd and carry one of these umbrellas would feel a lot safer at the end of the day. After all of this, when you get home (nice and dry of course) you run into that small problem of "where do I put this soaking wet umbrella?" without leaving a puddle. Bright Night includes a handy little plastic case with every umbrella. This was inspired by the designers' tubes that Ian Bouchard used to carry around his prototypes. He found that wherever he went they were getting "swiped". His next step was to find a way to make these tubes, and he did, for a lot cheaper than the original tubes. They have become not only an effective shipping package, but also a great storage tool. As an owner of a Bright Nights Illuminated Umbrella you are sure to be impressed.
The moral of the story: if you're going to get caught in the rain you might as well do it in style.
