Paris Hilton's Beer Ad Devalues Women, Blond Women

Paris Hilton stars in a beer commercial wearing a short black dress while preening and rubbing a can of Devassa beer on herself and seducing onlookers through her window.

But Brazil's Secretariat for Women's Affairs claims foul! They want the sultry commercial off the air.

Brazilian government holds a regulation that prohibits beer commercials treating women as overtly sensual objects.

"It's an ad that devalues women - in particular, blond women," says a spokeswoman for the Women's Secretariat. She also add that the commercial received numerous complaints.

Eduardo Correia, a spokesman for the regulator Conar, which has opened three separate investigations, says:

"The problem with the ad isn't a lack of clothing, but its sensual nature. A woman in a bikini on a beach isn't necessarily sensual; it depends on the context."

Devassa could mean "naughty" or "sexy" in English. Devassa's "Bem Loura" or "Very Blond" features an Internet campaign with the heiress wearing lingerie and high heels.

Out to promote the new Brazilian beer last week, a drunk Paris Hilton was seen crawling around a Rio club while holding a can of Devassa beer in her hand (see above). Very naughty indeed.

Kate Moss Debuts Gray Hair

Style icon Kate Moss debuted her beach blonde with silver streaks hair at the Longchamp party to launch her signature collection, "Kate Moss for Longchamp."

Chopped and blown into a messy-glam long bob, Kate Moss' new hair was in line with the silver streaks at recent Chanel Couture Spring 2010. Grayed-out watercolor tones were also sported on the spring runway at Proenza Schouler and on Ashley Olsen in December. Giles Deacon and Gareth Pugh both showed matte gray hair for their Spring 2010 shows.

Aside from Kate Moss, fellow British celebrity Pixie Geldof has also been wearing gray hair for a few months now.

Beauty Is A Matter Of Ratio

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but ideal beauty is a matter of millimeters.

The distance between a woman's eyes and between her eyes and mouth determines her attractiveness, a new study suggests.

US and Canadian researchers have found the golden ratio for facial beauty:

"That means a woman with a face 5 1/2 inches wide from ear to ear and 7 inches long from hairline to chin ideally would boast about 2 1/2 inches of distance between her eyes and another 2 1/2 inches between her pupils and mouth."

Women whose measurements varied from those markers were ranked less attractive by those who participated in the study. (They were asked to compare paired photographs of young, white, female faces with identical facial features but different distances between the eyes and between the eyes and mouth.)

The good news is that everyone can achieve the golden ratio by simply getting a new hairstyle.

"Our study... explains why sometimes an attractive person looks unattractive or vice versa after a haircut, because hairdos change the ratios," says one researcher.

If beauty magazines would use the golden ratio to determine today's most beautiful celebrities, guess who's the most beautiful person in Hollywood really is?

"Angelina Jolie does not have golden length and width ratios. Elizabeth Hurley gets the golden ratio for length but is different from the width golden ratio by one percent. But Canadian country pop musician Shania Twain has both the length and width ratios."

Because the study only looked at white women, more research is needed to determine if the golden ratios for men's faces, the faces of people of other races, and children's faces, are the same as for the women's faces in the study.

Gray Hair Cure, Available In 10 Years?

According to L'Oreal, gray hair cure could be available to people in 10 years.

After spending over £581 million on research last year, the world's largest cosmetics and beauty company is now working on the breakthrough treatment that will put an end to gray hair. The hair treatment is expected to consist of an oral element backed by a hair care range, available within 10 years.

How will L'Oreal cure gray hair?

"When hair goes gray, there is a progressive disappearance of the melanocytes from the hair. While there are still melanocytes in the hair, there is still hope that it could be re-pigmented," explains Patricia Pineau, L'Oreal Research Communications Director.

Melanocytes are pigment cells that give color to both the skin and the hair.

"Hair is an enigma. It's a fiber, a material with physical properties. It is also a living organ that grows, grays and falls out. How can we fight this? Do we need a physical approach or a biological approach?"

The answer is an oral program supplemented with a hair care program, targeting graying from both the inside and out.

This definitely sounds a breakthrough in cosmetic science.

But because graying of hair normally comes with old age, L'Oreal and its gray-hair treatment will surely redefine the concept of "graceful aging." And as for those who are born with natural gray, they might also quip, "What's wrong with gray hair, anyway?"
