Top Ten Weirdest Laws in the USA
By Samantha Read
At one point or another, we've probably all wondered about the usefulness of some of our laws. If you thought some of those were ridiculous, wait until you see these! (Believe it or not, these are actual laws that have been passed.)
- It is illegal to hunt camels in the state of Arizona.
Would you really be that successful?
- In West Virginia, only babies can ride in a baby carriage.
Sorry to ruin your fun, but you'll have to find some other way of getting around.
- In Gary, Indiana, persons are prohibited from attending a movie house [cinema] or other theater and from riding a public streetcar within four hours of eating garlic.
This is just common courtesy. No one likes playing "where's that odour?" when they're out for a night on the town.
- In Miami, it's illegal for men to be seen publicly in any kind of strapless gown.
Men everywhere are crying over this travesty, and reluctantly unpacking that sequined mini from their suitcases.
- In New York, it is illegal to shoot at a rabbit from a moving trolley car.
Please get off the car, or wait for it to come to a complete stop, then fire away.
- In Virginia, the Code of 1930 has a statute which prohibits corrupt practices or bribery by any person other than political candidates.
Apparently politicians everywhere have picked up on this as well.
- It is illegal to change the clothes on a storefront mannequin unless the shades are down in Georgia.
Mannequins are very modest, you know.
- In Chicago, it is illegal to take a French poodle to the opera.
They probably wouldn't enjoy it anyway. If you're feeling bad, take your pooch to the theater instead.
- Birds have the right of way on all highways in Utah.
When in doubt, let the bird go first.
- In Pennsylvania, it is against the law to sleep in your refrigerator.
Air conditioning is for cooling people. Refrigerators are for cooling food.
