hile it may seem like a new line of handbags comes out every week (which, frankly, isn't necessarily a bad thing. There's no such thing as having too many bags), occasionally a line comes along that consists of some really haute totes. Childhood friends Esther Barron (an attorney) and Julie Lazarus (a graphic designer) combined their talents and launched Elezar in Fall 2005, a collection that combines personality with functionality.
Smart, sophisticated and cutting edge, Elezer handbags have that hot, just-off-the-runway look but are actually useful – think an abundance of internal and external pockets. Classic shapes like the barrel and hobo are made edgier, and bags feature fun details like hand-braided straps and flirtatious tassels.
Styles range from their newest addition, the Morgan, a leather shoulder bag the designers describe as "an original shape with retro edge", to the Fairfax, a hot twist on the classic evening bag with a hand-stitched front flap adorned with a Swarovski crystal button.
One of my favorites is the Bronte, a must-have for those fashionista mothers-to-be unimpressed with the current selection of diaper bags. Both stylish and practical, the baby bag combines must-have features like stroller handles and a removable inside pocket that keeps bottles and snacks cool, with soft, luscious leather and a beautiful inside lining. Now that's what a "hot mama" deserves!
Celebrity fans who stash their stuff in Elezar bags include Mischa Barton (the Fairfax), Lindsay Lohan (the Small Boskin), Rachel Bilson (the Highbury), Jessica Simpson (the Nathan), Hillary Duff (the Highbury),and Fergie (the Small Boskin). With your favorite Elezar in tote you can strut downtown looking more famous than any of these celebs.
