Cher Supports Child's Sex Change

Cher struggles to understand her child's decision to have sex change, but gives her full support just the same.


Her daughter Chastity Bono (with Sonny Bono) has admitted long time ago that she was a lesbian and even wrote in her 1998 memoir how her famous mother reacted in horror to the news.

Now at 40, Chastity goes by the name of Chaz Bono and plans to undergo sex change to become a man. In all her motherly love, 63-year old Cher has expressed in a statement yesterday that eventhough she cannot fully understand her child's decision, she remains supportive and respectful for her daughter's courage not only in undergoing the operation but especially in taking a stand for a very crucial and life-changing decision:

"Chaz is embarking on a difficult journey, but one that I will support," says Cher. "I respect the courage it takes to go through with this transition in the glare of public scrutiny, and although I may not understand, I will strive to be understanding. The one thing that will never change is my abiding love for my child."
