Alec Baldwin Apologizes For Mail-Order Bride Joke

Following a sharp response in the Philippines after his mail-order bride joke, Emmy-awarded actor Alec Baldwin says his apology.


The statement was made during Alec Baldwin's guesting on The Late Show with David Letterman when he said that he would like to have more children and was "thinking about getting a Filipino mail-order bride at this point ... or a Russian one." The 51-year old star has one child with actress and former model Kim Basinger.

A Philippine senator called the 30 Rock star's statement "insensitive and uncalled for" and that the actor was unaware that there's an existing law in the Philippines against mail-order brides.

Alec Baldwin proved that he wasn't insensitive after all - he posted on the The Huffington Post that he was apologizing "to anyone who took offense." But while saying his apology, he also "believe that most people understood that this was a joke and took it as such."

Oh well, another issue of cultural differences. Or is this between Hollywood and politics?
