"Avatar Is No Masterpiece" - Vatican
With visually dazzling landscapes and nature-loving creatures, "Avatar" has won the hearts of million audience. Except Vatican.
"Not much behind the images," says Vatican newspaper, L'Osservatore Romano.

Avatar is highly-acclaimed not only for its awe-inspiring special effects but also for sending the message of saving the environment from exploitation.
But Vatican is wary. To them, behind the visual grandeur yet simplistic and sappy tale of the movie, therein lies the message that worship of nature can replace religion.
L'Osservatore Romano says the film "gets bogged down by a spiritualism linked to the worship of nature" while the Vatican Radio believes that Avatar "cleverly winks at all those pseudo-doctrines that turn ecology into the religion of the millennium."
"Nature is no longer a creation to defend, but a divinity to worship," they said.
But while Vatican's movie review on Avatar is disapproving, they also admitted that it is not theological pronouncement. They do, however, reflect the pope's views on the dangers of turning nature into a "new divinity."
Meanwhile, Avatar's daddy James Cameron says that the film's real theme is simply about respecting others' differences.
